Recently, The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition published the findings of a new study that offers some promising results for weight loss. The study compared reduced calorie high-protein and lower-protein diets combined with resistance and high-intensity interval training.
During the study, 40 men were selected to undergo workouts six days a week while consuming 40 percent less calories than the recommended daily intake for their height and weight. The study compared a high-protein diet for one half with lower-protein diets for the other half of the group.
There were some differences between the high-protein group and the low-protein group. Both groups gained strength, lost weight, and improved overall. While the amount of weight lost was only slightly better among the high-protein group, the muscle gain was substantially better than for the low-protein group.
Combining high-intensity interval training with strength training and s controlled calorie diet is a great path to weight loss, but it the study’s authors realize this is not a long-term plan.
