What Does a Model Actually Eat

Models are some of the world’s most beautiful people. Depending on what sort of model they are, the majority are tall, thin and drop-dead gorgeous. While there are plenty of plus-size and curvy models these days, when someone hears the word “model,” a picture of Kate Moss, Giselle Bundchen or some other Victoria’s Secret models usually comes to mind.

While genes play a huge factor in how beautiful, tall and slender a model is, they also try to eat right and exercise to maintain their slender frame (we’re talking about traditional models here since every type of model’s goal to maintain their body might be different). Many wonder what models actually eat everyday to maintain their catwalk-ready figure, hoping to implement something similar in order to look as good as them. But that’s not always a good idea given they might have a faster metabolism than you, which is why they’re able to maintain their slender figure.

What Models Eat in A Day

While every model is different when it comes to their meals, models gearing up for a fashion show or a bikini shoot will most likely have a different diet than if they were simply living their everyday lives. This might mean strict meals and calories, causing them to remain as thin as they are or thinner for the big show. In addition to strict diets, models usually also have a very rigorous exercise regime leading up to the show or special event.

Victoria’s Secret models are some of the highest-profile models on the planet and each year the walk the runway in their infamous bra and panty sets with the largest wings on earth. Because they’re parading around in their underwear and heels, flaunting their bodies to the world, they need to really prepare for the big show months in advance.

The majority of the show’s models eat three square meals a day because they’re also training for the show, so they need to get the necessary fuel for their two-a-day workouts. They have a light breakfast and then a normal portion of lunch and dinner, which helps improve their digestive tract to keep them “regular” to prevent bloating. The meals are spaced out anywhere from three to six hours.

They cut out snacks and eat three sensible meals each day. Many cut out certain food groups in order to really lean out and shred so that they are tone when walking in the underwear pieces. Some cut out diary as a way to prevent bloating, but not everybody does this. Some Victoria Secret’s models just eat healthier options instead of undergoing a crazy diet for a month or two to get ready for the show.

In fact, many advocates for portion control. This is actually a highly recommended way of eating that allows you to continue to eat the foods you love, but in moderation. This allows you to eat a bit of everything without having to sacrifice certain foods. When you practice portion control, you won’t be tempted to binge eat later on. With portion control, you’re creating good eating habits so that you can sustain your goal weight long-term.

The models also limit how many empty calories they drink, cutting out all alcohol and sodas. Many also cut out carbs or limit their carb intake, which can cause both bloating and inflammation. Some cut out sugar, gluten, processed foods and dairy. They only eat good carbs in order to provide them with energy needed for all their touch workouts they do to prepare for the show (but they’ll only eat them pre-exercise). One important thing that all models do when they’re getting ready for a show and living life everyday is that they always drink tons of water. This help detoxes your body of toxins and can help with your digestive tract and boost your metabolism.

When they aren’t detoxing for the fashion show, they still are conscious of their health and make sure to eat healthy in order to stay trim. Unlike what many might think, models aren’t always on a strict diet and the majority follow the 80/20 rule. This translates to eating healthy 80% of the time and being more flexible for 20%.

Is It Practical to Follow A Model’s Diet?

These days, models aren’t on crazy fad diets and they actually do eat, they’re just careful on what they consume. Depending if they’re getting ready for a show or an event, they’ll go on a detox program for a month or two until the show and then go back to their regular eating habits. A short-term detox can definitely help speed up your weight loss efforts and flush out your system of any toxins. It can also help you de-bloat and help you get back on track after a weekend of bad eating. Just make sure that you space out you detoxes to once every three months.

As far as their diet goes, following the 80/20 rule of eating is not a bad way to eat everyday. This still allows you to enjoy many of the foods you love, but in moderation. This is actually very sustainable long-term, as long as you add in exercise to help you stay toned and healthy.

While eating like a model during show prep time might not be easy for the average person given, they most likely have their meals prepared by a profession, you can still try to limit your carb intake and other foods that can cause inflammation and bloating. It’s always a good idea to drink lots of water and minimize your alcohol intake, too

So, eating like a model isn’t such a bad thing after all and can be very practical for those committed to their health!
